Terms of Service
Last updated 20 July 2026
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your use of RetireTool and all calculators, pages, and related content we provide (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version will always be posted on this page with its last-updated date. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. The Service is educational, not financial advice
RetireTool provides general, non-personalised financial calculators for educational and planning purposes. We are not a licensed financial adviser, broker, dealer, or fiduciary, and nothing in the Service constitutes financial advice, a recommendation, or an offer to buy or sell any security or product.
The Service does not take your personal circumstances, objectives, or financial situation into account. You are solely responsible for your own financial decisions, and you should seek advice from a licensed professional before acting on anything you see here.
3. No affiliation with government agencies
RetireTool is an independent project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any government agency, regulator, or statutory body. Where our tools reference public schemes or published statistics, the official figures published by the relevant body always take precedence over our estimates.
4. Accuracy, assumptions, and historical data
All results are estimates produced by mathematical models built on assumptions you choose and on historical data. Historical performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. Our backtesting tools use overlapping rolling windows, which understate uncertainty because adjacent windows share most of their years.
The Service bundles the following historical series for illustrative purposes:
- S&P 500 (total return) (1928–2026) — Damodaran / NYU Stern public dataset
- US 10-Year Treasury (total return) (1928–2026) — Damodaran / NYU Stern public dataset
- US Total Market (Wilshire 5000) (1971–2026) — Wilshire index factsheets
- Small-Cap (Russell 2000) (1979–2026) — FTSE Russell published index returns
- Nasdaq-100 (1986–2026) — Nasdaq published index returns
- Real Estate (NAREIT All Equity REITs) (1972–2026) — Nareit published index returns
- Gold (spot) (1968–2026) — London bullion market reference prices
- US CPI inflation (1928–2024) — US Bureau of Labor Statistics
- ETF total returns (SPY, QQQ, SOXX, XLK/XLV/XLF, ARKK, SCHD/VIG/VYM, VXUS/VWO, TLT/IEF/BND/LQD, DIA) (inception–2026) — Published fund total returns — verify provenance before launch
These series are compiled from publicly available reference data and are provided on an "as is" basis. We do not warrant that they are complete, accurate, or free from error, and we are not the originator of the underlying index data. Index names and ETF tickers shown in the Service are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used for identification only — never as an endorsement or a recommendation to buy any particular product.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service in any way that breaks applicable law or regulation;
- attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its infrastructure;
- present output from the Service to third parties as personalised financial advice; or
- remove, obscure, or misrepresent any disclaimer, attribution, or notice shown in the Service.
6. Your data
Calculator inputs are processed entirely in your browser and are never transmitted to us. If you voluntarily submit an email address for update notifications, it is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Advertising
The Service may display advertising supplied by third-party networks. We do not control and are not responsible for the content of those advertisements or for any products or services they promote. An advertisement appearing alongside a calculator is not an endorsement.
8. Language
The Service interface is available in multiple languages. These Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Disclaimer are published in English only, and the English text is the governing version. Translations of other parts of the Service are provided for convenience.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, RetireTool and its contributors shall not be liable for any investment or financial losses, loss of profits, or any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service or any calculation it produces. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Availability
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice. The Service is provided free of charge and we have no obligation to maintain any particular feature.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore.
13. Contact
